1. Transformers 1-3 (2007, 2009, 2011)

When Sam Witwicky gets an old, beat-up yellow car as his first ride, he is not too happy. But he soon discovers that his new wheels is a mechanical alien, Bumblebee, from a world called Cybertron. Sam gets pulled into the spectacular conflict between Bumblebee’s faction, the benevolent Autobots and the vicious Decepticons, who bring their war to Earth.

Two years later, humans and the Autobots run the Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty (NEST), a task force that hunts down the remaining Decepticons. But when a group of Decepticons manage to resurrect their defeated leader, Megatron, Sam has to give up college to go back and help fight the renewed war that is exploding all over the world.

Another two years later, the last two waves of the war finally come to a head when the Autobots discover the Ark, one of their spacecraft on the dark side of Earth’s Moon, carrying a cargo that can finally end the conflict. But this time, Sam and the Autobots face a terrible betrayal from their own ranks, an act that can hand the final victory to the Decepticons.

2. The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

22-Year-old Zak has a dream of meeting his sports hero, Salt Water Redneck, and joining the latter’s wrestling school. The problem is that Zak has Down syndrome and he is stuck in a state-run care facility that couldn’t care less about his goal of becoming a wrestler.

Zak is determined, however, and escapes taking his elderly roommate along. They build a raft to go to North Carolina and on the way, they meet Tyler, a crab poacher who believes in Zak’s dream but he is also being pursued by very dangerous men.

3. Honey Boy (2019)

Otis Lort used to be a child actor and as an adult, he is now a movie star. However, his addiction to alcohol comes to a head one day when he crashes his car and drunkenly fights with the police. This lands him in a rehab facility where he refuses to accept his councillor’s diagnosis of childhood PTSD.

The story flips between Otis’s therapy sessions and his past, when he lived in a motel with his father, a drug-addicted alcoholic and registered sex offender, who infused Otis’s younger years with violence and the soul-crushing strictness of a draconian stage parent.

4. Borg vs. McEnroe (2017)

The 1980 Wimbledon Championship has arrived and the stakes are exciting. One of the tennis players is the Swedish Bjorn Borg who has won the title four times in a row and a fifth victory will make world history. His opponent is a newcomer, the mouthy American John McEnroe who is a devastating force on the court.

When the two tennis titans meet, it is the match that changes the sport forever. The movie uses flashbacks and the present to give more insight into the players, their training, and the thrilling conclusion to what is often referred to as the greatest tennis match ever played.

5. American Honey (2016)

Star’s life is filled with pain. While other teenagers are having fun, she’s stuck in Oklahoma with a sexually abusive man and two children that are not hers. One day, she tries to hitchhike when she meets a van full of young people who are selling subscriptions and she joins them, leaving her dead-end situation behind.

But Star soon discovers that the group is not just selling subscriptions. They have a pecking order and she’s expected to travel with them and make money, putting Star in potentially dangerous situations with male customers who demand more from her before they agree to buy anything from her. The only highlight is Jake, the group’s most experienced member who appears to share her attraction.

6. A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006)

Young Dito runs the mean streets of New York where he makes incredible friends but also enemies among other young men who are prowling in gangs. Dito wants to do more with his life but his family is happy to stay where they are. After one particularly bad night, he decides to move away from his life of crime and leave everyone and everything behind, breaking his father’s heart.

Years later and now all grown up, Dito receives a call from his mother telling him that his father is very ill. This electric, award-winning movie follows Dito’s homecoming to a broken family and the painful lessons he learns about friendship, duty, and forgiveness.

7. Pieces of a Woman (2020)

Sean and Martha are excited to welcome their first child, a little girl, into the world. Martha chooses to have a home birth but when the time comes, midwife Eva realizes that the baby is in serious trouble. Eva tells Sean to get an ambulance but help arrives too late and their daughter does not survive.

The story follows a spellbinding portrayal of a couple falling apart in their grief, a fire fueled by interfering family members, a prosecutor more interested in suing Eva than helping them heal, and Martha’s own journey to find the truth about that night and being brave enough to stand up to everyone telling her what she should do and instead, help Eva.

8. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Norman’s deadly mistakes in combat do not earn him the respect of the other soldiers but when his commander takes him under his wing, sometimes brutally so, Norman learns the harsh realities of war and how to survive.

10. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010)

After serving time for insider trading, Gordon Gekko is released and he promotes his new book to warn people of an impending economical downturn. When it happens, 50 percent of stocks at Keller Zabel Investments (KZI) loses their value. However, Gekko informs Jacob Moore, a top trader at KZI and his future son-in-law, that KZI is really being sunk by malicious rumors being spread by a rival.

In order to salvage his career, Jacob has to overcome Gekko’s own criminal tendencies, his fiancée’s estranged relationship with her father and the shark-eat-shark world of trading.
